Support Jokowi Visiting Ukraine-Russia Bringing Peace Mission, DPR: Turn Indonesia's Passive Steps Into Active

JAKARTA - Member of the House of Representatives Commission I Bobby Rizaldi admitted that his party supports President Joko Widodo visiting Ukraine and Russia to carry out a mission of peace over the war between the two countries.

Bobby views that Jokowi's move can be seen as positive in the eyes of the world, from being passive to being active in maintaining peace.

"This government's gesture is different from the previous one, where we are passive, defensive. Now there is an active role in supporting equality that does not intervene," Bobby said during a Crosscheck discussion, Sunday, June 26.

In addition, Bobby also views Jokowi's efforts to make Indonesia a non-aligned Asian country that has a contribution to stop the war. However, Bobby asked Jokowi to prioritize dialogue and negotiations.

"In principle, of course we support this active step, but we also need to maintain our authority and also so that we can make a positive reaction. Don't even make things that are counterproductive later," he said.

Today, President Joko Widodo is making a foreign visit and will carry out a number of activities, one of which is a visit to Ukraine and Russia to carry out a peace mission.

The first agenda, Jokowi will first go to Germany to attend the G7 Summit. Indonesia, in this summit, acts as a partner country of the G7 and as chairman of the G20 Presidency.

"Here we will encourage, invite the G7 countries to jointly seek peace in Ukraine and also find solutions as soon as possible in dealing with the food crisis, the energy crisis that is engulfing the world. Indeed, this effort is not easy, but we Indonesia will continue to trying," said Jokowi at Soekarno-Hatta Airport.

After that, Jokowi will visit Ukraine and meet with President Zelenskyy. To Zelenskyy, Jokowi will invite him to open a space for dialogue in order to build peace.

"The war must stop and those related to the food supply chain must be reactivated," said Jokowi.

After leaving Ukraine, Jokowi will head straight to Russia to meet with President Vladimir Putin. "With the same mission I will call on President Putin to open a space for dialogue and as soon as possible to carry out a ceasefire and stop the war," he continued.

Then, the last agenda, Jokowi will visit the United Arab Emirates to resume discussions on economic cooperation and investment between Indonesia and the United Arab Emirates.
