Becoming The First Leader In Asia To Meet Zelenskyy-Vladimir Putin, Foreign Minister Retno Says Jokowi Wants To Contribute To Humanity

JAKARTA - Indonesian President Joko Widodo will visit the capital cities of Ukraine and Russia, namely Kyiv and Moscow, as well as meet with the leaders of each country, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and President Vladimir Putin.

Indonesian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Retno LP Marsudi, said the visit would be made as part of a series of visits by the President abroad at the end of June and carried out in very complex situations.

"Even though the situation is difficult and the problems are complex, as president of the G20 and a member of the champion group of the Global Crisis Response Group formed by the Secretary-General of the United Nations, President Jokowi chose to try to contribute, he did not choose to remain silent", said Retno during a press conference that was followed online in Jakarta, Antara, Wednesday, June 22.

With this visit, President Jokowi will be the first Asian leader to meet directly with the leaders of the two countries. According to the Foreign Minister, the President's visit is a reflection of his concern for humanity and efforts to contribute to dealing with the impacts felt by various countries in the world as a result of the war.

"Trying to contribute to dealing with the food crisis caused by war and its impact is felt by all countries, especially developing countries and low-income countries", she said.

In addition, the visit is also an effort to encourage the spirit of peace.

President Joko Widodo's visit to Ukraine and Russia will be part of a series of activities for several countries.

Before visiting the two countries, the President will visit Germany to attend the G7 Summit as a partner country.

After visiting Ukraine and Russia, Jokowi is then scheduled to leave for Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates to discuss economic cooperation.
