JAKARTA - Coordinator of the Indonesian Anti-Corruption Society (MAKI) Boyamin Saiman has encouraged the National Police Criminal Investigation Unit to carry out a reconstruction of the fire case of the Attorney General's Office building. Open reconstruction is considered important in order to answer public doubts about cigarette butts that caused the burning of the AGO building due to fire.

"To answer people's doubts because the process is always asking why only cigarette butts can burn all buildings, I beg the Criminal Investigation Unit to immediately reconstruct the AGO building. What happened that day, for example, 12 o'clock or morning, then what they did until the point when there was a fire. For example, how do cigarette butts get bigger and what are they really trying to extinguish. If we try to extinguish it, it should be extinguished, "Boyamin said in a statement to reporters, Saturday, October 24.

Boyamin emphasized that he respects the legal process carried out by Bareskrim. The National Police was deemed to have worked in accordance with the legal corridors and finally named 8 suspects, ranging from construction workers to officials who made the Attorney General's commitment. But the question mark from the public about cigarette butts was mentioned by Boyamin that the Police had to answer.

"The public's questions were immediately answered by Bareskrim investigators by carrying out an open reconstruction and could be covered by the mass media, even if necessary, the process was broadcast live as transparently as possible," said Boyamin.

In addition, Boyamin urged the police to keep open the option of suspicion in Article 187 of the Criminal Code regarding the deliberate element of the fire incident. The eight fire suspects at the AGO are currently charged with Article 188 of the Criminal Code.

"If it is true that this is allegedly carried out by the builders, at least it is smoking in a non-smoking area. That means it means you can be negligent on purpose, "he said.

In this case, Bareskrim Polri named eight suspects. Five of them are construction workers.

The five construction workers have the initials T, H, S, K, and IS. They were named suspects for violating the no smoking rule in the personnel bureau hall.

While the other three namely, UAM as the foreman, R who is the Director of PT ARM and the Commitment Making Officer (PPK) of the Attorney General's Office, NH.

The determination of the suspect against UAM was reasoned because they did not supervise the five craftsmen while they were working. Meanwhile, R and NH were named suspects for making an agreement to use a dust cleaner cleaning fluid which is said to accelerate the combustion process.

The Director of the Directorate of General Crimes at Bareskrim Polri, Brigadier General Ferdy Sambo, said that the suspects who renovated the Personnel Bureau hall collected trash from their work.

The trash is put into three polybags or large plastic bags. Including cigarette butts that may still be slightly lit.

"We collect all the used paper towels, put the used wood in it. Including the cigarette is thrown there," Ferdy told reporters, Friday, October 23.

Then, the suspects left the hall. They came down from the 6th floor of the AGO building.

Fires in polybags burn other rubbish. A large fire appeared and burned the surrounding objects.

"(Polybag) is close to thinner, aibon glue and others," he said.

In the end, an even bigger fire burned several parts of the AGO building.
