1,714 Residents' Houses In OKU Regency, South Sumatra Affected By Floods

SUMSEL - A total of 1,714 houses in Ogan Komering Ulu (OKU) Regency were affected by flooding due to the high intensity of rainfall that occurred on Thursday, June 9 night. The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) continues to update the affected data.

"So far, there are 1,714 residential units in Baturaja Barat and Baturaja Timur sub-districts including Tanjung Baru Village, Air Paoh Village, Sukaraya, Sekarjaya, Kemalaraja, Sukajadi, Baturaja Permai Village and Talang Jawa Villages that were affected by floods with water levels of 30 centimeters to 3 meters," said the Head of the OKU BPBD, Amzar Kristopa, quoted from Antara, Friday, June 10.

In addition to collecting data, Amzar said OKU BPBD personnel are still helping residents clean up flood materials so that community activities can return to normal.

Based on the data collection, he said, the worst flood-affected houses were in Sekarjaya and Sukajadi Villages, East Baturaja District, with 767 houses submerged in water with a height of 3 meters.

Luckily, the natural disaster did not cause any casualties, but the flood damaged a number of public facilities and household furniture belonging to residents with an estimated loss of more than Rp. 1.5 billion.

Residents affected by the flood have now started to return to their homes to clean their houses from the rest of the flood.

Even though the flood had begun to recede, Amzar reminded residents to keep increasing their vigilance to anticipate further floods so as not to cause casualties.

"To anticipate further flooding, we have alerted personnel in flood-prone areas to patrol for 24 hours," he said.
