KPU Explores Burning Voice Box Incident In Jambi

JAKARTA The Jambi Province General Election Commission (KPU) is handling an incident of burning ballot boxes that occurred in the 2024 Simultaneous Pilkada. Members of the Indonesian KPU, Idham Holik, revealed that the incident involved election witnesses and a group of voting organizers (KPPS) due to misunderstandings.

"In Jambi there is a ballot box that was burned by the witness, and we are still investigating it," said Idham at a press conference regarding the development of voting and counting votes at the Indonesian KPU Building, Jakarta, Wednesday, November 27.

Idham said this incident was one of the reasons for the re-voting (PSU). Apart from Jambi, PSU was also carried out at several polling stations because violations were found, such as voters who exercised their voting rights more than once.

Temporary data noted that PSU will be held at 2 polling stations in West Java ( Karawang and Sukabumi regencies), 1 polling station in Central Kalimantan, and 1 polling station in West Kalimantan.

"The number of PSUs in general decreased drastically compared to the previous election," said Idham.

In addition to the PSU, further voting is also scheduled in several areas experiencing natural problems, such as floods. North Sumatra Province recorded the highest number of polling stations holding follow-up voting, which was 110 polling stations.

Idham explained that in some areas, natural factors such as floods hinder the implementation of voting. North Sumatra is one of the areas with the most significant obstacles.

"Further voting will also be carried out soon for TPS whose voting stage was stopped," said Idham.

The Indonesian KPU affirms its commitment to ensure that the entire election process runs smoothly and fairly, including following up on every obstacles that arise in the field. "KPU and all its staff will continue to seek resolution and ensure that people's voting rights remain guaranteed," concluded Idham.
