5.260 Joint Personnel Secure May Day Fiesta

JAKARTA - Metro Jaya Police together with the National Armed Forces (TNI) and the Provincial Government of DKI Jakarta have prepared 5.260 joint personnel to secure the May Day Fiesta of workers' masses which will take place at Gelora Bung Karno, Senayan on Saturday, May 14.

"For security activities, the Metro Jaya Police will reduce the strength of 5.260 security personnel, including assistance from related agencies, including the TNI," said Head of Public Relations of Polda Metro Jaya Kombes Endra Zulpan, quoted by Antara, Friday, May 13.

Zulpan said the police had received a notification letter regarding the event and according to the letter the May Day Fiesta activity was expected to involve around 60.000 people.

The participants in the action are masses of labor elements who come from various areas in Greater Jakarta to West Java and are expected to arrive using 20.000 buses.

The activity is expected to continue on Saturday at around 09.00 a.m. - 15.00 p.m., so that people who will be active around the location of the action are expected to understand if there is a traffic density.

"If we can avoid the GBK area because it is feared later because of the many activities there, then the number of vehicles prepared by the participants, later on, we hope that the community will avoid it," he said.

The police ensured not to close the area to the public, despite issuing an appeal to avoid the GBK area on Saturday.

Other areas affected by the May Day Fiesta action, namely Jalan Jenderal Gatot Subroto starting from Simpang Semanggi to the front of the House of Representatives Building, then the Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) area, Senayan, Youth Gate, Jalan Asia Afrika, Jalan Jenderal Sudirman starting from the roundabout.
