MANOKWARI - A basic food shop and several houses located at Jalan Yogyakarta, East Manokwari Village, West Manokwari District, West Papua Province were burned down, Tuesday, May 10 morning.

Jihan's shop, which sells various basic necessities, was razed to the ground and only rubble was left after about an hour of fire raging at the site. Not only that, several houses of residents in the vicinity caught fire.

Hendrikus, one of the residents who met at the location of the fire, said that the fire was difficult to extinguish because of the lack of fire engines that came to the location.

Even a mob repellent car, water cannon belonging to the police were also deployed to the location to help contain the blaze so that it did not spread to other buildings in the vicinity.

"The fire was already big and only a few fire engines came, so it practically couldn't prevent the fire from spreading to other buildings," said Hendrikus as reported by Antara.

Based on information from residents at the scene, the fire started in the kitchen, then spread to all shops containing flammable basic necessities.

The incident drew the attention of residents to crowd the area around the location of the fire, which made it difficult for firefighters to extinguish the fire.

In the last two days, Manokwari Regency, the capital of West Papua Province, was hit by two fires.

In the early hours of Monday, May 9, hundreds of stalls and stalls selling traders at Wosi Market, Manokwari were also devoured by the red rooster.
