Active Cases Of COVID-19 In Indonesia Are Below The World Average, Jokowi: We Are Better

JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) claims the number of active COVID-19 cases in Indonesia is better than the world. He conveyed this based on the data he had as of Sunday, October 11, which stated that the number of active cases of COVID-19 in Indonesia is currently around 19.97 percent compared to the world average of more than 20 percent.

"The data I received as of October 11, the average active case of COVID in Indonesia was 19.97 percent. I think this is good because it is lower than the world's average active COVID cases which reached 22.1 percent. We're better off," he said. Jokowi opened a limited meeting regarding the handling of COVID-19 and National Economic Recovery which was broadcast on the Cabinet Secretariat YouTube account, Monday, October 12.

The number of these active cases, said Jokowi, also dropped drastically compared to the end of September which reached 22.46 percent.

Furthermore, the former Governor of DKI Jakarta also explained that the number of cures also continued to increase to 76.48 percent. This figure is said to be higher than the world recovery rate of 75.03 percent.

"This is getting better. Therefore, the average cure rate must be continuously improved, continuously improved by increasing the standard of treatment in the hospital, in the ICU, and in isolation," he said.

Meanwhile, for the death rate, Jokowi said that the average figure recorded by Indonesia was still higher than the world average. According to the data it has, the COVID-19 death rate in Indonesia currently reaches 3.55 percent. Meanwhile, the world average is currently at 2.88 percent.

"I think our big task here is how to keep the mortality rate pressed," he said.

It is known, based on data as of October 11 issued by the Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) the number of positive cases of COVID-19 in Indonesia increased by 4,497 cases, bringing the total accumulation to 333,349 cases. Meanwhile, there were an additional 3,546 cases with recovered cases with an accumulated number of 255,027 cases.

Meanwhile, the number of COVID-19 deaths increased by 79 cases with the total accumulation reaching 11,844 cases. The number of specimens examined reached 36,332 and the positivity rate reached 14.5 percent.
