KEPRI - The Riau Islands Provincial Government (Kepri) appealed to the public not to play with firecrackers or fireworks in welcoming and celebrating Eid this year. This type of game does more harm than good.

"Although this is an appeal, it is more of a ban for the community," said Riau Islands Provincial Secretary Adi Prihantara in Tanjungpinang, Antara, Wednesday, April 27.

Playing firecrackers in terms of security can endanger the safety of yourself and others. Some of the dangers of playing firecrackers include causing hearing injury and even being able to provoke fire and spread to flammable objects.

"The explosion of firecrackers has the potential to be life-threatening, one of which is burns," he said.

On the other hand, he continued, playing with firecrackers and fireworks is a waste in the midst of economic difficulties due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

"Euphoria is okay, but don't overdo it, let alone burn money by playing with firecrackers," he said.

Adi also appealed to the public to remain disciplined in health protocols when celebrating Eid, because the COVID-19 pandemic was not over yet. The public is asked to comply with wearing masks, keep a distance, wash their hands, avoid crowds and travel without urgent needs.

According to him, this year the Riau Islands Provincial Government has also allowed residents to carry out a round takbir parade on the eve of Eid al-Fitr, but only limited to the area where they live, not held on a large scale.

"We understand that residents miss because there has been no traveling takbir parade for two years due to the pandemic, so this year it can be carried out but still limited and obey health protocols," said Adi.
