JAKARTA - Central Java Governor Ganjar Pranowo fully supports President Joko Widodo's policy of banning the export of cooking oil and its raw materials starting April 28, 2022 until an undetermined deadline.

"When we used the HET policy it didn't work, using DMO didn't work, it was accompanied by government instruments and it still didn't work. I think this is an action taken by the president very firmly," said Ganjar in his written statement, Monday, April 25.

According to the number one person in Central Java, the firm action taken directly by President Joko Widodo is correct and good because the cooking oil issue has been going on for more than four months.

Related to this, Ganjar continued, the main stakeholders such as the Minister of Trade and the Minister of Industry, as well as BUMN or through the National Food Agency immediately took steps, for example by inviting entrepreneurs to communicate.

"Because everything has been going on and it has been more than four months, I think the President's actions are correct. I think this is a thousand percent correct and we must support it, so that later people will understand what must be considered in the national interest," he said.

In this context, Ganjar said that businessmen would want to be invited to sit down together and believe that they had high nationalism and patriotism.

"Once again, our national interest must support this action. The President said that until an undetermined time, it means that if everything quickly fixes this situation, maybe it won't take long, but if it is not corrected, surely this policy will have an impact on others," said the PDI-P politician.

Ganjar believes that the ban on cooking oil exports has had a good effect, especially in Central Java and other regions throughout Indonesia.

He suspects that after the policy, a lot of cooking oil will enter.

"After just checking this, I suspect that there will be more cooking oil coming in here and I've 'checked' the field for bulk cooking oil, it's also not easy to get. Those who get BLT buy it as well as packaged cooking oil. I asked all of them, if we go to the field, we will understand that," he said.

As reported, President Jokowi announced that the Government of Indonesia would ban the export of cooking oil and its raw materials, which will take effect from Thursday, April 28, 2022, for an undetermined time limit.
