Angry That The Motorcycle Exhaust Was Sold To Someone Else, Students In Yogyakarta Were Burned By Their Own Friends, 2 People Have Been Arrested

YOGYAKARTA - Yogyakarta Special Region Police Chief, Inspector General Asep Suhendar, confirmed that the suspected perpetrators of the arson of a student in Yogyakarta who had previously fled out of town have been caught.

"He was arrested yesterday", said Asep Suhendar when met at the Kepatihan complex, Yogyakarta, quoted from Antara, Monday, April 25.

The alleged perpetrator who was arrested was the main actor of the three people who previously fled out of town.

He admitted that the arson case of a student in Yogyakarta, which was allegedly carried out by his own friend, received special attention from the Yogyakarta Regional Police because it rarely happened.

"This is a rare occurrence. I don't think this modus operandi has ever happened", he said.

With the arrest of the perpetrators, Inspector Asep hopes that the families of the victims of the burning can be calm and fully trust the police to be handled thoroughly.

"The victim's family does not need to overreact, this has been handled. Hopefully, the others are also caught", he said.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Mergangsan Sector Police, Commissioner Rachmadiwanto, said that of the three suspected perpetrators, only two had been arrested.

"While two people (arrested), one is still missing", said Commissioner Rachmadiwanto.

Previously, Commissioner explained, the burning incident of a student took place on March 23, 2022, at the victim's house, Lowanu Street, Mergangsan, Yogyakarta City.

The arsonists were close friends of the victim. They are still students at the same campus. Based on the testimony of witnesses, the case began with the issue of buying and selling motorcycle exhaust between the victim and one of the perpetrators.

The perpetrator, said Rachmad, was offended because the victim sold the exhaust to someone else after the price was agreed upon.

"It was offered to be done but sold to someone else. So, offended, annoyed with the victim", he said.

Not long after, one of the three perpetrators set fire to the victim. The roles of the other two people in the incident are still being investigated.

After the incident, the three fled out of town. The victim who suffered burns is still alive and is still undergoing treatment at Dr. Sardjito Central General Hospital (RSUP), Yogyakarta.
