France Insinuates Biden's Routine 'Tweet' To Putin: It's Like Adding Oil To A Fire

JAKARTA - US President Joe Biden has not only been active in mobilizing his allies to impose economic sanctions on Russia. But Biden also routinely attacks Vladimir Putin with scathing sentences.

Joe Biden just called Putin 'unable to stay in power'. And in an earlier statement, Biden also referred to President Putin as a "butcher". A few days earlier, President Putin called Biden a "war criminal" for sending tens of thousands of troops to attack Ukraine and target civilians.

French President Emmanuel Macron called on all parties to exercise restraint in their words and actions in dealing with the Ukraine conflict.

"I will not use words like this because I continue to have discussions with President Putin," Macron said on French TV channel 3 as reported by Channel News Asia, Sunday 27 March.

Putin and Macron speak regularly by telephone. Macron made diplomatic efforts to stop Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

"We want to stop the war that Russia has launched on Ukraine without escalation - that's the goal," Macron said on France 3 TV, noting his aim was to secure a ceasefire and troop withdrawal through diplomatic means.

"If this is what we want to do, we must not improve things - neither with words nor with actions," he said.

The French president on Friday said he was seeking to hold more talks with President Putin in the coming days about the situation in Ukraine as well as initiatives to help people leave the besieged city of Mariupol.

French far-right presidential candidate Marine Le Pen said he supported Macron's approach.

"Obviously, it was the words that added oil to the fire," he said, when asked about Biden's comments.
