JAYAPURA - Papuan Police Chief, Inspector General Mathius D Fakhiri, confirmed the arrest of Buchtar Tabuni, who is currently the Chairman of the West Papua Council.

Buchtar Tabuni et al were arrested after they attacked and ganged up on security forces who were on patrol and passing around his house.

The attack occurred at around 10.30 WIT, Thursday, March 24. At that time, joint forces patrolled the Wolker Camp area, Heram District, Jayapura. The joint team also approached Buchtar Tabuni's house, where at that time several youths were gathering.

"Previously, the officers received information that a meeting was held at Buchtar Tabuni's house by a group of youths calling themselves the Provisional Government of West Papua United Liberation Movement for West Papua (ULMWP)", said Fakhiri, quoted by Antara.

The Papuan Police Chief explained that the mobile patrol was carried out to anticipate disturbances in the security and social order.

At that time, the members came to Buchtar's house and asked them not to hold meetings or meetings. However, the appeal was not accepted and they attacked members of the Jayapura Police, so that Buchtar Tabuni and his sympathizers were arrested.

"The case is now being handled by the Jayapura City Police, and an investigation is still underway", said the Papuan Police Chief.
