Responding to this, Deputy Governor of DKI Jakarta, Ahmad Riza Patria, reminded that there are sanctions for business places such as restaurants that intentionally throw waste into drains.
"Then anyone who violates will be given a sanction. The public can provide input. If someone violates it, dispose of waste, especially dangerous ones," said Riza at DKI City Hall, Central Jakarta, Tuesday, March 8.
To follow up on the findings of food waste, Riza admitted that his party would dispatch a team to investigate the element of intent.
"Later, the relevant team will check, it will be confirmed whether there is an element of intent. Later there will be sanctions," he said.
Previously, the Head of the Maintenance Section of the Central Jakarta SDA Sub-dept. Achmad Daeroby revealed that his party had found a number of restaurants in three sub-districts caught frequently dumping food waste into the canal.
"The restaurants that mostly dispose of waste are located in Gambir, Tanah Abang and Menteng sub-districts. Only three of the eight sub-districts in Central Jakarta often throw food waste into the canal," said Achmad.
Achmad explained that the food remains were found when officers from the Blue SDA Sub-dept. of Central Jakarta were dredging the canal. When dredging is done, there is a lot of dry food waste in the canal.
"This food waste when it dries up can harden. Later the impact can cause the flow to be disrupted so that it becomes a puddle until it floods," he said.
