Floods And Landslides Hit A Number Of Locations On Siau Island, North Sulawesi, Regency Government Establishes Public Kitchens For Residents

NORTH SULAWESI - The Government of Siau Tagulandang Biaro Regency, North Sulawesi Province has set up a communal kitchen to prepare food needs for flood and landslide refugees in several places on Siau Island.

"The government of Siau Tagulandang Biaro through the Social Services has set up a public kitchen to meet the food needs of flood and landslide refugees", said Gandawari Mulalinda, Head of Communication and Information Department of Siau Tagulandang Biaro Islands in Siau, Antara on Monday, February 21.

He said the rains on Siau Island caused flash floods in three villages and landslides in several villages and sub-villages. Flash floods occurred in Batusenggo Village and Laghaeng Village, South West Siau District, and Peling Sawang Village, West Siau District, while landslides occurred in Lia 1 Village, East Siau District.

Rain since Monday morning also caused river water in Paniki and Paseng Sub-Districts, West Siau Subdistrict to overflow until residents' settlements caused the material to fill road sections and damaged State Civil Service (ASN) houses in the area.

The water of the Bonto River in Mala Village, South East Siau District also overflowed to flood the settlements, while several road sections in Siau Island were piled up by landslides.

"Until now, no information has been received of casualties, but in Batusenggo Village there is one house badly damaged several of ASN office houses in Paseng District are damaged", he said.

The Siau Tagulandang Biaro Regency Government urges residents living in riverside areas and landslide-prone hills to immediately seek a safe place.

"The Regent of Sitaro (Siau Tagulandang Biaro), Evangelin Sasingen, has ordered Secretary Herry Bogar to review the disaster site on Siau Island", Gandawari Mulalinda said.
