Thanks To Honesty, Nagrak Flats Cleaning Officer Who Handed Over Money Left Behind Belonging To A Quarantine Patient Was Offered A Job At BNPB

JAKARTA - Muhammad Iqbal's honesty in his work has sweet fruit. Iqbal is an employee of the Jakarta Experience Board (JXB) who serves as a janitor for the quarantine area of the Nagrak Flats, Cilincing, North Jakarta.

Some time ago, Iqbal accidentally found money worth 2,050 euros and 3,000 dollars, or the equivalent of Rp. 65 million, belonging to one of the quarantine guests of the Nagrak Flat. He then handed over the money to be returned.

Unexpectedly, this received appreciation from the Head of the National COVID-19 Handling Task Force who is also the Head of the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), Suharyanto.

"Thank you, Mas Iqbal, for an action that should be an example for all employees and all those involved in providing government facilities," said Suharyanto in his statement, Monday, February 21.

This three-star general then offered Iqbal a job at BNPB if the pandemic was over.

"If the pandemic is over, the quarantine facilities will no longer exist. Please, if you are willing to join BNPB, "he said.

In addition, Iqbal was also offered a scholarship to study, so that he could continue his higher education. Iqbal also received a cash appreciation of Rp. 15 million and became a permanent employee at JXB, the BUMD DKI where he now works.

Separately, Syaiful Amin, the owner of the money found, shared his experiences through his Facebook page. The incident began when he was quarantined at the Nagrak Flat and realized he had left his money at the quarantine location. After reporting the loss, the money is returned to the guest.

“I feel very relieved. Thanks to Muhammad Iqbal, the janitor who found my money. There are many choices for Mas Iqbal but he chose to do the right thing," said Syaiful.
