KPK Continues To Investigate Azis Syamsuddin's Involvement In Alleged Corruption Of The Central Lampung Special Allocation Fund

JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has confirmed that it will continue to investigate allegations of corruption in the Central Lampung special allocation fund (DAK). Including, investigating the role of former deputy chairman of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) Azis Syamsuddin in this case.

This was conveyed by the Acting Spokesperson for the KPK for Enforcement, Ali Fikri, after Azis was sentenced to 3.5 years in prison by the Panel of Judges at the Jakarta Corruption Court.

"Until now, the investigation is still ongoing," said Ali in a written statement quoted on Friday, February 18.

If there is sufficient preliminary evidence from the investigation, the KPK will investigate it thoroughly. Anyone involved, continued Ali, will be named a suspect as a form of accountability.

"Of course, if it is later found that there was a criminal act of corruption and there is sufficient preliminary evidence, we will make sure that anyone who can be legally accounted for will be named a suspect," he said.

As previously reported, Azis Syamsuddin was sentenced to 3.5 years in prison and a fine of IDR 250 million, subsidiary to four months in prison. In addition, Azis' political rights were also revoked for four years from the time he finished serving his prison term.

He was proven to have given bribes worth IDR 3.099 billion and USD 36.000, bringing the total to around IDR 3.619 billion, to former Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) investigator Stepanus Robin Pattuju and advocate Maskur Husain. The goal is to take care of the case involving him in Central Lampung.

The verdict is lower than the demands of the KPK Public Prosecutor (JPU) who requested that Azis be sentenced to four years and two months in prison, plus a fine of IDR 250 million subsidiary to six months in prison.
