KUPANG - Sub-Directorate IV of Certain Crimes Directorate of Special Criminal Investigation of the East Nusa Tenggara Police (NTT) found the medical waste treatment was not optimal in several hospitals in Kupang City.

The Head of Sub-Directorate IV of Certain Crimes Directorate of Special Criminal Investigation of the East Nusa Tenggara Police (NTT), Commissioner Theodorus Priyo Santosa, said medical waste was found after his party carried out surveillance at several hospitals.

"We have carried out the monitoring process since Monday last week until now (a week)", he said in Kupang, Antara on Tuesday, February 15.

He said this was done as part of efforts to prevent various infectious diseases, such as dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF), COVID-19, and other infectious diseases.

Several hospitals that were reviewed for medical waste management were Siloam Hospital, Dedari Hospital, Kupang City Hospital, and several other hospitals in this area. The amount of medical waste from Siloam Hospital that is produced a day reaches 100 kilograms with the type of infectious waste.

Meanwhile, at the Dedari Hospital Kupang the amount of infectious waste per day reaches 31 kg, the Boromeus Hospital Kupang has an incinerator of approximately 10-11 kg, the Leona Hospital Kupang infectious waste is approximately 50 kg per day.

Naimata Mental Hospital is approximately 5 kg of infectious waste. Mamami Hospital wastes infectious waste, and COVID-19 per day is approximately 7-8 kg. SK Lerik Hospital has an incinerator and infectious waste of approximately 50-60 kg per day.

He said that the medical waste management is still not optimal because so far there are only two transportation services and one incinerator.
