BENGKULU - Students of Bengkulu City State Elementary School (SDN) 89 were forced to take a temporary leave of absence due to flooded school buildings.

The head of SDN 89 Bengkulu City, Isratul Hadi, said that the learning process is still being carried out online.

"Today, until an undetermined limit, students are temporarily closed, but they are still given online learning and all homeroom teachers are given the task of giving lessons to children," Hadi said in Bengkulu, Monday.

He mentioned that the flood inundation in the school environment, which is located on Jalan Korpri 8, Bentiring Village, Muara Bangkahulu District, Bengkulu City is still quite high and does not allow for learning activities in schools.

In addition, his party assisted by firefighters have evacuated school items such as books and other important files so that they are not damaged due to flooding.

"Indeed, SDN 89 is often flooded and I hope there will be a role from the relevant government in dealing with floods, especially in SD 89," he said.

Meanwhile, the Secretary of the Bengkulu City Education and Culture Office (Dikbud), Nopri Walihan explained that the Bengkulu City Government plans to relocate the school to a safer area.

"Currently we are trying to find a suitable location and place but it is still in Bentiring Village," he explained.

According to him, flooding in the Bengkulu City area is seasonal and almost every year SDN 89 is flooded.

The floods that occurred in Bengkulu were sent from neighboring districts because the Bengkulu River flows into Bengkulu City.
