Kupang City BPBD Continues To Build Evacuation Routes In Tsunami-Prone Locations

JAKARTA - The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) Province encourages the BPBD of Kupang City to continue to install evacuation route signs in the Oesapa area, Kelapa Lima District, which is an area prone to the threat of a tsunami.

"We continue to encourage the Kupang City BPBD to install evacuation route signs that can be used by the community to evacuate in the event of a tsunami natural disaster," said Head of BPBD East Nusa Tenggara Province Ambrosius Kodo in Kupang, Monday, February 7.

According to data held by NTT BPBD from Meteorology Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), Kupang City experienced a tsunami in 1800. So it is necessary to anticipate the disaster early by increasing the installation of evacuation signs in the Oesapa beach area to minimize casualties in the event of a tsunami natural disaster.

"The Kupang City BPBD has installed early warning signs and evacuation route signs in the tsunami-prone area of Oesapa so that it can help people save themselves when a tsunami occurs," said Ambrose Kodo.

He said the early warning signs were very important so that when an emergency occurred, the public would be able to know the routes for self-rescue.

"Evacuation routes must be known and must be installed so that they can anticipate casualties due to the tsunami natural disaster," said Ambrosius Kodo.

According to him, the Kupang City BPBD has also mapped out safe areas for residents to save themselves in the event of a tsunami natural disaster.

"We hope that the disaster will not happen, but we need to anticipate early," said Ambrosius Kodo.
