Thousands Of Fish Died Due To Polluted Cikaniki And Citongtut Rivers, Bogor DPRD Chairman: Don't Inherit Damage To Our Grandchildren

JAKARTA - Thousands of fish died due to environmental pollution in the Cikaniki River, Nanggung, and Situ Citongtut, Gunungputri. The chairman of the Bogor Regency DPRD, Rudy Susmanto, said he was concerned.

"I invite all of us to care about the preservation of our environment. We must not pass the damage on to our children and grandchildren," he said in Cibinong, Bogor, West Java, quoted by Antara, Saturday.

According to him, water pollution will continue to have an impact on the next generation if left unchecked. So he asked all elements of society to play an active role in protecting the environment.

Rudy said that protecting the environment is not only the responsibility of the government but also a shared responsibility.

"If everyone maintains awareness not to damage and also protects our rivers and nature, it can minimize pollution actions," said Rudy.

He also asked law enforcement officers to take action against anyone who intentionally pollutes the environment.

Previously, the Regent of Bogor, West Java, Ade Yasin assigned the new head of the Environmental Service (DLH), Ade Yana Mulyana to tackle environmental pollution in Situ Citongtut which caused thousands of fish to die.

"Recent incidents of thousands of fish that died in Situ Citongtut, Gunungputri District, due to waste pollution or other reasons must be handled immediately," said Ade Yasin during the inauguration of seven echelon IIB officials at the Regional Secretariat (Setda), Cibinong, Bogor, Tuesday, January 25.

The reason is that the mass death of fish in Situ Citongtut, Gunungputri District is not the first, but the umpteenth time it occurs at the beginning of every year.

He asked Ade Yana to investigate the exact cause of the contamination of the water in Situ Citongtut, which was suspected to have been contaminated with industrial waste, and to report the results of the investigation in the near future.

"Going to the field, we must find the cause, whether it comes from industrial waste, who throws (waste) into it," said Ade Yasin.
