Moeldoko Urges DPR To Immediately Pass The TPKS Bill

JAKARTA - Presidential Chief of Staff Moeldoko said the Sexual Violence Bill (RUU TPKS) must be a plenary legal product. needs to be refined from the TPKS Bill. "Substantially it must be able to answer all problems, both in terms of prevention, victim protection, and criminal arrangements," said Moeldoko, when opening the consignment for the preparation of the DIM TPKS Bill, in Jakarta, Monday, January 31.

The Presidential Staff Office held a consignment related to the preparation of the TPKS Bill DIM, which involved the Ministry of Law and Human Rights, KemenPPA, Kemensetneg, AGO, Polri, and a number of related institutions.

On that occasion, Moeldoko also hoped that the TPKS Bill Task Force would immediately move to conduct public discussions with strategic groups whose voices need to be heard, as material for improving the DIM. “Don't shout it out later after the bill is enacted. It is better for us to have a bloody debate now rather than later after everything has been ratified,” said Moeldoko. Previously, in a plenary session on Tuesday (18/1), the DPR approved the Bill on the Crime of Sexual Violence (TPKS) as a DPR initiative bill. The proposed DPR initiative bill is then submitted to the President for the issuance of a Presidential Letter (Surpres). According to the legislation, the President has a maximum of 60 days to send a presidential decree to the DPR and the DIM, starting from the time the TPKS Bill is approved as a DPR initiative.
