Task Force: 54 Percent Of COVID-19 Cases In Central Java Occur In Semarang City

JAKARTA - Spokesperson for the Task Force for Handling COVID-19, Wiku Adisasmito, said that COVID-19 cases in Central Java Province have tended to decline since last July. However, the numbers are still volatile.

He explained, until September 2, the accumulated number of COVID-19 cases in West Java Province reached 14,428 with 28.35 percent of active cases or 4,091 cases. Meanwhile, the cure rate currently reaches 64.41 percent or 9,294 cases and the death rate is around 7.22 percent or 1,043 cases.

"With this number, active cases in Central Java are included in the low number of active cases. Although it is still higher than the percentage of active cases nationally, namely 24.1 percent," Wiku said in a press conference broadcast on the YouTube account of the Presidential Secretariat, Thursday, 3 September.

Even though the active cases are still low, Wiku asked the Central Java Provincial Government to reduce the death rate due to COVID-19. Because, this figure is still very high compared to the national figure which is around 4.2 percent.

He explained the city / regency with the highest number of cases. Wiku said that Semarang was the city with the highest cases with 7,832 cases.

Next there is Jepara Regency with 580 cases and Surakarta City with 546 cases.

Meanwhile, districts / cities with the highest death toll from COVID-19 are Semarang City with 490 cases, Demak Regency with 110 cases, Kudus Regency 63 cases, Jepara Regency with 42 cases, and Surakarata City with 34 cases.

The districts / cities with the highest number of recovered cases were Semarang City, Jepara Regency, Surakarta City, Demak Regency, and Semarang Regency.

"Judging from the distribution of the number of cases as much as 54 percent in Central Java, it is concentrated in the city of Semarang from 35 districts / cities in Central Java," said Wiku.

So that, reflecting on this, Wiku reminded local governments to pay attention to the number of cases in their area, especially Semarang City.

"Semarang City in order to suppress the increase in the number of cases by continuing to pay attention to the implementation of health protocols carried out by the community together with the support of all parties because they see that economic activity has begun to run," he concluded.
