SURABAYA - A total of 15 children in Neighborhood Unit (RW) 10 Menur Pumpungan Village, Sukolilo District, Surabaya City, East Java, were affected by an outbreak of dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF).

"On Monday (24/1), I visited a residential area where some of the children were affected by dengue. I have spoken to the head of the RT for further treatment," said Deputy Chairman of Commission B of the Surabaya Regional Representative Council (DPRD), Anas Karno, quoted by Antara, Tuesday, January 25.

During the meeting, Anas Karno heard complaints from Neighborhood Unit heads, which was followed by contacting the lurah and the head of the puskesmas.

"Residents ask for fogging to be carried out to prevent transmission," he said.

Seeing this, Anas Karno then contacted the village head and the head of the local health center. This request was then agreed to by the village head and the head of the puskesmas.

However, Anas Karno regretted the slow response of the kelurahan and Puskesmas to carry out fumigation in the village area.

"You have to wait for a large number of sufferers before you want to 'fogging'," he said.

After meeting with neighborhood unit heads, Anas Karno visited one of the children with DHF who was being treated at home.

"We ask the residents affected by dengue to be treated properly by the public health center (Puskesmas)," he said.

Meanwhile, one of the administrators of RT 06/RW 10 Farid said that in his village there were three children who were infected with dengue.

"The number of children infected with DB is between 2 and 3 children, spread across RT 01 to RT 06," he said.

He said the dengue outbreak began to infect children in the RW 10 area in January. Currently, he said, five children have improved, while the rest are still being treated at the hospital because they have received referrals.

Residents have reported this incident to the Sukolilo Health Center but were only given an abate, which functions as a mosquito larvae killer in the bath, even though the residents wanted it to be fumigated.
