PPKM Extended, Luhut Says Jabodetabek Still Applying Level 2

JAKARTA - Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment, Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, revealed that the Jabodetabek agglomeration area is still implementing PPKM (Community Activity Restrictions) Level 2.

Thus, PPKM assessments in the areas of Jakarta, Bogor City, Bogor Regency, Depok City, Bekasi City, Bekasi Regency, Tangerang City, Tangerang Regency, and South Tangerang City for the next week will remain the same as before.

"In terms of agglomeration, Jabodetabek is currently still at level 2. Details regarding the PPKM level can be seen in the Ministry of Home Affairs which will be published today", Luhut said at a press conference on PPKM evaluation, Monday, January 24.

Luhut revealed that the increasing number of COVID-19 cases in DKI Jakarta caused the condition of the capital city to be tightened to PPKM Level 3.

However, it turns out that the transmission of COVID-19 and the spread of the Omicron variant in DKI is not only in local transmission because COVID-19 cases from foreign travelers have been recorded in Jakarta.

In Jakarta, as of January 23, 1,313 cases of Omicron have been recorded. Of those infected, as many as 854 people were foreign travelers, while the other 459 were local transmissions.

There are currently 7,166 active cases of COVID-19 in the capital, with 79 percent being local transmissions and 21 percent traveling abroad.

That is why Luhut said that the government has generalized PPKM assessments in Jakarta with buffer zones in Jabodetabek.

"The theater of the pandemic war that occurred in DKI Jakarta caused the assessment of the province's situation to enter Level 3", said Luhut.

"However, in conducting assessments at the PPKM level, the Government consistently treats DKI as one unit of the Jabodetabek agglomeration area", he continued.
