The Rolling Stones Equal The Beatles' Record with Foreign Tongues Album

JAKARTA - The Rolling Stones managed to equal The Beatles' record after their 25th studio album, Foreign Tongues, topped the UK charts.

The new achievement marks the 15th number one album for The Rolling Stones on the UK Official Albums Chart.

Based on data from the Official Charts Company, launching NME, the album released on July 10 immediately shot to the top spot. This success repeated the success of the Stones' previous album, "Hackney Diamonds", which was released in 2023.

With 15 number one albums, Mick Jagger et al now sit alongside The Beatles in second place in the list of musicians with the most number one albums in British history.

The current top position is still held by Robbie Williams who has collected 16 number one albums, followed by Taylor Swift with 14 albums, and Elvis Presley and Madonna with 13 albums each.

The Rolling Stones' journey to the top of the charts took a very long time. The band first tasted the number one position through their self-titled debut album in 1964.

The album "Foreign Tongues" involves a row of top musicians. Paul McCartney fills the bass drum on the song "Covered In You", while Robert Smith from The Cure contributes to the songs "Divine Intervention" and "Never Wanna Lose You".

The album also features collaborations with Steve Winwood, Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith, as well as the last audio recording of the late Rolling Stones drummer Charlie Watts, before his death in 2021.

Even though they have entered their twilight years, The Rolling Stones insist that they have no plans to retire. Jagger even revealed that he had started pouring creative ideas into working on the next new album material.

"Yes, this could be a trilogy. I've started writing songs. The songs could be for other people. When you write a song, sometimes you decide, 'This is not for me, but it could be for the Chili Peppers', or whatever," said Jagger.

"I have a lot of material, and not all of it is suitable for The Rolling Stones. However, that shouldn't stop me from continuing to write. If you get an idea, just write it," he concluded.
