Head Of SDA Sub-Department: Infiltration Wells Are Not Only For Flood Control But Water Conservation

JAKARTA - Head of the Central Jakarta Water Resources (SDA) Sub-Department Abdul Rauf Gaffar said the construction of infiltration wells or vertical drainage does not only function as flood control and eliminate puddles.

"The infiltration well is not just for flood control. It's for water conservation. It doesn't mean eliminating puddles," said Abdul Rauf, quoted by Antara, Thursday, January 20.

According to him, flood control cannot only rely on infiltration wells. The construction of infiltration wells aims to conserve or collect rainwater.

Rauf explained that flooding in nine locations in the Central Jakarta area on Tuesday, January 18 was influenced by high rainfall intensity, overflowing water from the Sunter River to "back water".

One of the affected roads, namely Jalan Jenderal Suprapto and Jalan Ahmad Yani, Cempaka Putih, Central Jakarta, with inundation heights of up to 70 cm.

The officers pumped until 18.30 WIB, before finally the road could be passed again.

"The average of under 1 hour has subsided, only the one in the Suprapto (Road) area is a bit long. At half past seven, one can open a slow lane," he said.

Standby pump that makes the water recede quickly. There are at least 23 pump houses and 95 stationary pumps in Central Jakarta.
