Komnas HAM Investigate Cases Of Drug Detainees Who Died In Police Hospital

JAKARTA - The National Human Rights Commission (Komnas HAM) is investigating the case of detainees who died at the South Jakarta Metro Police. This is done to find out the truth of the case.

Komnas HAM commissioner Choirul Anam said he would investigate and monitor the case.

"The case of torture is a special concern of Komnas HAM. One of the places where it usually happens is detainees. So it is important for us to follow up on the case," said Komnas HAM Commissioner Choirul Anam via text message, Thursday, January 20.

"(The follow-up) is to carry out monitoring and investigations," he continued.

Choirul admitted that he did not know more clearly about the case. However, he had heard that the victim had an autopsy performed. According to him it is a good step to find out the truth of the case.

"We have not studied further in the case. However, from media monitoring, an autopsy was carried out at the request of the family. This is a good initial process," he said.

Choirul admitted that he would check the potential violations if the case proved to be violent.

"Let's look at the data first," he said.

Previously, it was reported that the family of a drug detainee from the South Jakarta Metro Police who died at the Police Hospital reported to the National Human Rights Commission (Komnas HAM). The family considered that there were irregularities in the death of FNS.

"Yes, so because we have heard the results of the autopsy, we continue to hear from several relatives who saw the irregularity," said the attorney for the detainee's family, Antonius Badar Karwayu, when confirmed in Jakarta, Wednesday, January 19.

Antonius said the family submitted a report to Komnas HAM on Tuesday, January 18, a day after FNS's body was buried at TPU Bambu Apus 2, East Jakarta.
