Fahri Hamzah's Motion To Dissolve MPR Does Not Have A Constitutional Policy, Jazillul Fawaid: Information Is Slipping

JAKARTA - The leadership of the Indonesian People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) responded to the statement of former DPR Speaker Fahri Hamzah who proposed that the state high institution be disbanded.

Deputy Chairperson of the MPR, Jazilul Fawaid, said that Fahri was delirious because he suddenly made such a statement.

"We understand that, it looks like he is sleeping or sleeping," said Jazilul to VOI, Thursday, January 20.

According to him, Fahri's proposal clearly has no constitutional basis. He emphasized that the MPR could not be dissolved arbitrarily. "Yes, it doesn't have a strong constitutional basis and idea," he said.

The PKB politician then ordered Fahri Hamzah to reread the MPR's powers, functions and duties. "Tell me to read it again, regarding the authority, function and duties of the MPR," said Jazilul.

Previously, the Deputy Chairperson of the Gelora Party, Fahri Hamzah, suggested that the MPR be dissolved. Fahri admitted that he had conveyed to the Chairman of the MPR, Bambang Soesatyo (Bamsoet) that he would be the last chairman.

"I once called Mas Bambang, even before the discussion, I said. Mas, I think I proposed that the last MPR chairman was Mas Bambang," Fahri said in an online discussion, Tuesday, January 19.

Fahri said that currently MPR members are not busy. From several MPR leaders, he joked that only Bamsoet was busy, and that was only taking care of motorbikes.

"The MPR leadership is rather busy, only Mas Bambang takes care of the motorbike, the most. So, because there really isn't that. Busyness is enforced. So I think that, we should seriously think about it," said Fahri.

The former deputy chairman of the DPR also admitted that he was restless with the naming of the MPR. Because, he said, the nomenclature should be attached to the Senayan area as an assembly of council members. According to him, many parties are often mistaken and it is difficult to distinguish between the assembly and the council. In fact, the Senayan complex is not the DPR, but the assembly.

"In fact, Senayan is the assembly. Senayan is the MPR. Therefore, if we say, I am in the MPR complex, or the Senayan assembly is the assembly," he said.

Fahri assessed that all parties should now start thinking about the future of the MPR. Moreover, he remembers President Joko Widodo's statement that he wanted to carry out national reconciliation when he was still the Deputy Speaker of the DPR. "Well, if we are going that way, then we have to think about the future of the MPR," he said.
