JAKARTA - Indonesia has again received support for the COVID-19 vaccine from Japan through dose-sharing cooperation.

Director of East Asia at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Santo Darmosumarto, said that the delivery of the aid vaccine this time was divided into four groups.

The first and second batches arrived on Saturday (15/1) afternoon and evening with 448.000 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine each. The two groups are the 194th and 195th stages of vaccine arrivals in Indonesia.

The next batch will arrive on January 18 and 19, 2022, bringing the total to 2.722.930 doses.

Previously, throughout 2021, Japan had provided around 4.15 million doses of vaccine to Indonesia.

"With this, the total support for the COVID-19 vaccine dose-sharing cooperation from Japan is 6.875.080 doses," said Santo, quoted by Antara, Sunday, January 16.

He said this cooperation support was a concrete form of strategic partnership between the two countries, especially in helping accelerate economic recovery in Indonesia.

Santo also said that Japan is an important partner for Indonesia in the fields of trade, investment, infrastructure, and economic development.

"High appreciation to the government and people of Japan for the support of this cooperation," he said.

Santo emphasized that vaccine diplomacy is working to secure vaccine needs for the Indonesian people.

In addition to continuing to advocate for equal access to vaccines for all countries, Indonesia is at the forefront of supporting efforts to strengthen global health cooperation, so that the world is better prepared to face future health challenges.

Vaccine availability is very important when the government begins to implement booster doses of vaccination for the community.

The government also continues to increase the first and second doses of vaccination in regions, especially those where vaccination achievement is still relatively low.
