Bogor City Is Still Being Considered In Anticipation Of The Fast Spread Of Omicron

BOGOR - Bogor City Police are considering the implementation of odd-even (gage) vehicle number plates on weekends in anticipation of an increase in the COVID-19 variant of the Omicron in Jakarta and its surroundings spreading to its territory.

Head of Bogor City Police, Grand Commissioner Susatyo Purnomo Condro, said that the implementation of odd-even vehicles was aimed at giving high alertness to the public against the surge in COVID-19 cases.

"We will see the condition, if the vehicle density increases on weekends, then we will do odd-even," said Grand Commissioner Susatyo, quoted by Antara, Wednesday, January 12.

The Bogor City Police Chief explained that tightening the mobility of residents by sorting out the vehicle number plates has indeed become optional in line with the status of Level 2 Community Activity Restrictions (PPKM) in Bogor City.

This status, said Grand Commissioner Sustayo, also means that the City of Bogor should be wary of the new variant of COVID-19, namely Omicron, which has entered the Bogor Regency area.

It is hoped that the odd-even vehicle number policy will inhibit the spread of Omicron, because people who are exposed to it cannot simply enter their territory.

"So that the public is also aware that at this time we all need high vigilance in anticipating the spike in the number of COVID-19," he said.

Odd-even has actually been alerted since 2021 whenever it is needed to break down the density of vehicular traffic in the city of Bogor in order to avoid crowds that have the potential to spread COVID-19.

However, the tightening of citizen mobility still depends on the number of vehicles entering the city of Bogor on weekends.

The Bogor City Police Chief explained that since the Christmas and New Year's 2022 holidays until mid-January, odd-even vehicles were not applied because the volume of incoming vehicles was still quite low.
