JAKARTA - The Malang Customs and Excise Supervision and Customs Service Office thwarted the circulation of illegal liquor by securing dozens of bottles via shipping services from Bali to Malang Regency, East Java.

Head of Malang Customs Office Gunawan Tri Wibowo in Malang City, East Java, Wednesday said that the shipment of dozens of bottles of illegal liquor was the result of strengthening cyber patrols carried out by Malang Customs.

"This started with the synergy of information from the cyber patrol team, intelligence team, and the Malang Customs Enforcement team who received information on the delivery of drinks containing ethyl alcohol (MMEA) without excise stamps," said Gunawan as quoted by Antara, Wednesday, January 12.

From the information gathered by Malang Customs, the team conducted an inspection of the warehouse for the expedition service on Energi Baru Street, Blimbing District, Malang City.

During the inspection at the warehouse for the expedition service, officers found dozens of bottles of MMEA excisable goods (BKC) with a content of 30 percent without excise stamps.

"There are 46 bottles of Jap Sukma brand Balinese wine and another 24 bottles without a brand that have been secured," he said.

From the results of the operation, it is estimated that the resulting state loss is approximately Rp3.3 million. Currently Malang Customs is still conducting further inspections related to the findings of MMEA shipments using the expedition service.

According to him, drinks containing more than 5 percent alcohol must be attached with excise stamps. Otherwise, the drink is categorized as illegal.

He appealed to the businessmen of courier services not to transport goods subject to illegal excise.

"Drinks with an alcohol content of more than 5 percent must have an excise stamp attached. Otherwise, it is illegal and we will take strict action," he said.

Previously, Malang Customs and Excise had also thwarted the shipment of illegal cigarettes via courier services. Malang Customs and Excise secured approximately 606,000 illegal cigarettes with an estimated state loss of Rp363.9 million.
