8 Houses Damaged By Wind And Falling Trees In Tasikmalaya

TASIKMALAYA - A total of eight houses were damaged by strong winds and falling trees when heavy rains hit the Purbaratu District, Tasikmalaya City, West Java.

Disaster Management Officer, Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Tasikmalaya City, Erik Yowanda said heavy rains flushed the Tasikmalaya area causing damage to residents' houses in Singkup Village, Purbaratu District.

"There were eight houses that were damaged, the average damage was moderate because the roof was blown by the wind and hit by a tree", Erik said, quoted by Antara on Tuesday, January 11.

He said that the Tasikmalaya City area was hit by high-intensity rain accompanied by strong winds which caused trees to fall and hit residents' houses.

Joint officers assisted by the local community, he said, had cut the fallen tree trunk that hit the house so that the occupants were safe and returned to their homes.

In addition, the government has prepared plastic tarpaulins to cover people houses whose roofs have broken so that rain does not enter the houses.

"We also sent tarpaulins to the affected houses", he said.

A resident whose house was damaged, Iyan, admitted that heavy rain accompanied by strong winds caused a tree to fall on the roof of the house, as a result, it could no longer be occupied.

"The roof is broken, everything is damaged, it can't be occupied", he said.

Iyan and his family members will stay temporarily at his parents' house while waiting for the house to be repaired.
