Kidnapping And Extortion Perpetrator Who Claimed To Be A Policeman In Jambi Was Arrested By Police

JAMBI - Members of the Jambi Regional Police's Ditreskrimum in less than five hours arrested four perpetrators of kidnapping and extortion for selling used motorcycles and demanding ransom from the target, with the brains of the perpetrators claiming to be the police.

"The incident initially took place in the Citra Raya City Housing Area, Muarojambi Regency, Wednesday (29/12), and the four perpetrators were arrested five hours after their action was to blackmail the victim's family by pretending to be a police officer," said Director of Criminal Investigation at the Jambi Regional Police, Grand Commissioner Kaswandi Irwan, as quoted by Antara, Thursday, December 30.

The arrested perpetrators were Satria Jaya (24) and Ramadhan Antoni (21) who were residents of Pasar Jambi, then Dian Sahputra (23) a resident of Danau Sipin, and finally Adi Wijaya (25) a resident of Alam Barajo. Meanwhile, another perpetrator is still in the process of being arrested.

Five of the four perpetrators who were arrested were accomplices who had done so twice in the same case. They often carry out kidnappings that disturb the people in the Jambi area.

The mastermind of the action was the perpetrator Adi Wijaya offering a used motorbike on social media to a victim named Ninde (22), a resident of Kerinci.

Next Ninde was accompanied by a friend named Algo (22) a resident of Kerinci. They made an agreement to the victim to do cash on delivery (COD) in the Citra Raya City Housing Area, Jambi Outer City District, Muaro Jambi Regency.

Furthermore, Adi Wijaya and four of his colleagues had planned that when the victim arrived at the promised location, they would immediately take the victim's belongings and take the target into the car.

Grand Commissioner Kuswandi Irwan explained that the perpetrators were five people with two using a Honda Vario motorcycle, the rest were waiting across the street using a red Toyota Yaris brand BH 1530 NY.

"So, the two victims Algo and Ninde when they arrived at the location were immediately pointed at using a sharp weapon by the perpetrator, Algo managed to escape, but Ninde was arrested and taken around the city," said Kuswandi.

At around 16.30 western Indonesia time, Wednesday, December 29, the victim Ninde was put into the car belonging to the perpetrator. The victim was abused, his face was covered with black plastic, and his hands were handcuffed, and all of the victim's belongings in the form of cellphones, money, and ATM cards were confiscated by the perpetrators.

To launch the action, the victim Ninde was taken around and headed towards Sejinjang, East Jambi District, Jambi City using the perpetrator's car.

One of the perpetrators disguised himself as a policeman, and the victim was told to call his family that he was arrested by the police (the perpetrator, ed) and they demanded a ransom of Rp40 million from the victim's family.

"The victim was told by the perpetrators to call his family that he was arrested by the police because he had bought a fake motorbike, and asked for a ransom," said Kuswandi.

The victim's family suspected the perpetrator's modus operandi, and then reported the incident to the Jambi Regional Police.

Following up on the report, members of the Jambi Police Ditreskrimsus along with members of the Jambi Police's Narcotics Directorate conducted an investigation and made arrests.

After knowing the whereabouts of the perpetrators, the Jambi Regional Police joint team made the arrests in the Auduri II area, East Jambi District, Jambi City at around 22.00 western Indonesia time.

Furthermore, the four perpetrators were taken to the Jambi Police Headquarters for examination.

The confession of the perpetrator, Adi Wijaya, was that he had carried out the same action twice together with the perpetrators of Satria Jaya.

As a result of the arrest, the police also secured evidence in the form of a Toyota Yaris car, 4 cell phones, 1 said bayonet, two handcuffs, an ATM, and cash worth Rp1.35 million.
