JAKARTA - The HISAR O+ missile defense system, which reached the mass production stage in July, successfully hit the target aircraft in a test fire, the Turkish Defense Ministry said on Sunday.
In a statement posted on Twitter, the ministry said this test fire was carried out at the Aksaray Shooting Range on December 24, 2021, of the Autonomous Missile Launch System.
"The HISAR O+ missile is ready for use," the Ministry of Defense said, citing the Daily Sabah on December 26.
The Hisar-O+ short-range air defense system has a full 360-degree defensive capability and can attack and fire simultaneously against at least nine different targets.
In addition, HISAR O+ is said to be effective against fighter aircraft, helicopters, air-to-ground missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles. The missile can also intercept targets at a distance of 25 kilometers (15.5 miles).
The Hisar project has major Turkish defense companies as stakeholders, namely Aselsan and Roketsan, who are partners in the development of the air defense system.

In addition to the HISAR O+ project, the development of the SIPER long-range missile defense system is still ongoing and is expected to be ready by 2023.
