New PBNU Chairman Yahya Cholil Staquf Reminds Ganjar Of Gus Dur's Figure

SEMARANG - The new chairman of PBNU Yahya Cholil Staquf, known as Gus Yahya, reminded Central Java Governor Ganjar Pranowo of the late KH Abdurrahman Wahid or Gus Dur.

"The election of Gus Yahya reminds us of the spirit of pluralism that the 4th President of the Republic of Indonesia has always carried with KH Abdurrahman Wahid or Gus Dur, moreover, Gus Yahya also wants to return that spirit to PBNU," said Ganjar in Semarang quoted by Antara, Friday, December 24.

Ganjar assessed that pluralism in the era of Gus Dur's leadership was maintained, namely how to take sides with minorities and how fluid style was towards anyone.

According to him, this is part of NU's strength in contributing to development.

"Of course this is something that creates new energy for NU to try to regenerate," he said.

Ganjar said that Gus Yahya would continue the leadership role that KH Said Aqil Siroj had built well.

"I have no doubt that NU will run much better because what KH Said Aqil put is extraordinary and Gus Yahya just has to continue," said Ganjar.

As is well known, Yahya Cholil Staquf was elected as the General Chair of PBNU for the period 2021-2026.

The decision was made on the agenda of the Plenary Meeting of the 34th NU Congress, which has an agenda for electing the chairman to be held in Lampung, Friday, December 24.

Gus Yahya is not a foreign figure for NU because he has served as the Head of the Aam PBNU in 2015-2020, even the 4th President of the Republic of Indonesia KH Abdurrahman Wahid (Gus Dur) has appointed him as a spokesman.
