JAKARTA - The government will open another tower in the Nagrak Flats (Rusun), Cilincing, North Jakarta, as a quarantine facility for travelers from abroad.

Head of BNPB Suhayanto revealed that the plan to open tower 6 of the Nagrak Flats is in anticipation of the additional need for quarantine places for Indonesian migrant workers (PMI) returning to the country.

In tower 6, there are 265 units of rooms that can accommodate quarantine of up to 1000 people. A total of 166 units of which are feasible and ready to be used, while the remaining 99 units still need to be repaired in the interior of the building and rooms.

The chairman of the Task Force for Handling COVID-19 also asked the DKI Provincial Government to speed up repairs for the opening of tower 6 of the Nagrak Flat.

"In order for the repair to be accelerated so that we can immediately send the necessities and equipment to be immediately used as a quarantine location," said Suharyanto in his statement, Thursday, December 23.

Based on data as of Wednesday, December 22, quarantine beds in Nagrak Flats have been filled as many as 1,860 of the total capacity of approximately 4,000 beds.

Previously, the Nagrak Flat was closed from the isolation place for COVID-19 patients because the case was starting to slant. Now, the government has reopened the Nagrak Flats for centralized quarantine for PMI, students, and state civil servants (ASN) as a quarantine reserve.

In addition, the government will also add three quarantine places or locations for international travelers in Jakarta, namely the Milling Flats on Gebang Island, East Jakarta, Daan Mogot Flats in West Jakarta, and the Education Quality Assurance Institute (LPMP) in South Jakarta.

The addition was made as an anticipation if the government implemented an additional time to carry out quarantine, which was originally scheduled for 10 days to 14 days due to the new variant of Omicron which has been detected in 92 countries in various parts of the world.
