JAKARTA - President Prabowo Subianto has begun to partner with one of the world's best campuses to support the plan to build 10 new medical and science universities in Indonesia.

Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology Brian Yuliarto said the government had discussed a strategic partnership with Imperial College London when receiving the campus delegation at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta, Monday, June 22.

According to Brian, the cooperation includes the preparation of curricula, teaching standards, joint research, to guest professor programs.

"We are discussing a strategic partnership to improve the quality of education in Indonesia, especially medical education," said Brian.

The Imperial College delegation was led by Vice President Amanda Wolthuizen. The meeting was also attended by Chief Technology Officer Danantara, Sigit Puji Santosa.

Brian said the Imperial College would be involved in President Prabowo's plan to build 10 new medical and science universities.

The role of the British campus is not limited to academic consultations. Imperial College will help prepare education standards, teacher quality, and research strengthening.

According to Brian, this cooperation is a great opportunity because Imperial College has just taken the second position in the world's best universities in the QS World University Rankings, behind the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

In addition, for the field of medical education, Imperial College is in the top four in the world.

The government hopes that this collaboration will not only have an impact on the new campus that will be built, but also help encourage the improvement of higher education in Indonesia more broadly.

"We hope that there will be an improvement in the quality of the curriculum, education, lecturer quality, and research in Indonesia," he said.

Brian assessed that the meeting received directly from the President opened up opportunities for wider educational cooperation between Indonesia and world-class educational institutions.
