It's Official! Ancol Is Chosen As The Location Of The Formula E Circuit

JAKARTA - The Ancol area, North Jakarta has been officially designated as the location for the Formula E circuit. This was decided by the DKI Provincial Government, PT Jakpro BUMD, and the Formula E executive committee.

This was conveyed by the Chairman of the Formula E Organizing Committee Ahmad Sahroni at a press conference in the Ancol area.

"Only this morning, the circuit approval was given for the implementation of Formula E in Jakarta, in Ancol," said Sahroni on Wednesday, December 22.

Sahroni explained that Ancol was a suitable location to be designated as the circuit for the electric car racing event.

"Ancol is a dynamic and iconic place in Jakarta, and does not interfere with other infrastructure," said Sahroni.

Previously, the President Director of PT Jakpro said that his party had narrowed down two locations, one of which would be designated as a circuit, namely the Ancol area and JIExpo.

"So one of the things that we want to activate is in Ancol, there are also several. At JIExpo, the possibility is still open. Converging to the two (locations)," Widi told reporters, Tuesday, December 21.

It is known that Jakarta will officially host Formula E on June 4, 2022. This decision was made through the FIA World Motor Sport Council in Paris, on October 15, 2021, which at the same time ratified the 8th season racing calendar for 2021/2022.

DKI Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan appointed the Secretary-General of the Indonesian Motor Association (IMI), Ahmad Sahroni, as the chief executive of the Formula E international electric car racing event or Jakarta E-Prix.

In its implementation, Sahroni will be assisted by the General Chair of IMI, Bambang Soesatyo, who is the Chair of the Jakarta E-Prix Steering Committee.

Initially, there were five alternative locations for the Formula E event. These locations included Pantai Indah Kapuk, Sudirman (area), Jakarta International Stadium, JIExpo (Kemayoran), and Ancol. After going through site studies and surveys, Ancol was finally chosen to be the Formula E circuit.
