172,212 Joint Personnel Deployed To Secure Christmas And New Year

JAKARTA - A total of 177,212 joint TNI (Army)-National Police personnel and the Regional Government were deployed to provide security during the 2021 Christmas and New Year 2022 holidays. Personnel will be on standby at security and service posts.

"For all personnel, approximately 177,212 are involved from the National Police, central and regional, TNI and related agencies", said Assistant Chief of Police, Inspector General Imam Sugianto, during a virtual press conference at the ministerial-level coordination meeting regarding Final Preparations for the Christmas and New Year Holiday, Tuesday, December 21.

Some of the personnel were also deployed for security at several vital objects. For example, places of worship, especially churches, economic or shopping centers, and tourist attractions.

"For both Catholic and Protestant churches, there are more than 43,000. Then there are 3,900 shopping centers and 6397 tourist attractions", said Imam.

"We have plotted the security posts for 34 cities with a total of 3,159 personnel. We have all the data. We have mapped everything based on the vulnerability of each region and the areas secured by officers", continued Imam.

Previously, the police would set up security and service posts in the context of the 2021 Christmas and 2022 New Year holidays. The posts would be located in areas that are often the goal of the community.

"What we have established are security posts and service posts as well as integrated posts in public areas that will be visited by the public", said Inspector General Imam Sugianto.

For service posts, there are 1,113 registered service posts spread throughout Indonesia. Later, thousands of Police personnel will be alerted at the post.

Members who are at the service post will facilitate the community to undergo a swab or COVID-19 antigen. Because the COVID-19 free certificate will be a requirement that must be met by the public if they are going to travel.

"There are 1,113 service posts in 34 regional police ranks. National Police personnel at the terminal are 2,113 people, the train station is 407 people, the port is 1,804 people, and the airport is 815 people", said Imam.

Meanwhile, for security posts, there will be 3,159 scattered throughout Indonesia. The function of the security post is to ensure the implementation of health protocols goes well.
