Dozens Of People In Tanjungpinang Allegedly Fooled By Forex Investment

JAKARTA - Dozens of people in Tanjungpinang City, Riau Islands (Kepri) feel cheated in forex investments, with a loss value of around Rp. 2 billion. One of the victims, Ikhsan, said that he was deceived by AZ, a person who claimed to have expertise in investing in forex.

"Two years ago I got to know AZ, and was offered to invest in Forex. I was tempted because of the 5 percent profit per month guaranteed by AZ," he said in Tanjungpinang, Antara, Saturday, December 18.

Ikhsan added, AZ also guarantees that the money invested in Hot Forex will not decrease, in case of a loss. The guarantee is contained in the deed of agreement made by a notary.

Ikhsan's confidence is growing because Az "covers" himself as a pious person every day. "Diligent worship and fasting. That also makes me sure," he also said.

Ikhsan's belief prompted him to find new investors, join him at Hot Forex. Ikhsan and his family invested around IDR 350 million.

Meanwhile, a number of businessmen and citizens who have various professions in government invested a value of Rp. 1.6 billion.

For three months, Ikhsan and other investors made profits according to the agreement. But then they only get disappointed.

"Those who cheated were not random people," he said.

Az's modus operandi was breaking into the victims' investment accounts at Hot Forex. Ikhsan was disappointed because Hot Forex did not inform him before or after the money was transferred to Az's bank account.

"The account is indeed in my name, but the money can be transferred to Az's bank account," he said again.

Based on data from the Financial Services Authority (OJK) in 2019, Hot Forex is illegal forex.

Az, who was confirmed by this problem, did not answer all questions via short messages on WhatsApp. Then Az blocked ANTARA's cell phone number.

The victims are still considering reporting Az to the police. They are still looking for other ways to get Az to return the money.
