BATANG - The government of Batang Regency, Central Java, has offered to relocate 10 families living around the crater of Mount Sipandu in Pranten Village, Bawang District, because they are located close to areas prone to disasters such as landslides.

The Head of the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Batang Ulul Azmi said the government had prepared the village's crooked land as a relocation site which was about 100 meters from its original location.

In addition, he said, the district government has also prepared funds for the construction of houses for residents from assistance from the central government.

"The plan is that the process of granting and building the relocation houses will be accompanied by an exchange of land for residents. However, residents have rejected the relocation offer from the regency government," he said, quoted by Antara, Monday, December 13.

Ulul Azmi said the crater of Mount Sipandu in the Dieng Plateau experiences widening every year so that the condition is dangerous for residents around the location.

According to him, with the rejection of the offer from the district government, the funds for the construction of the house have been returned to the central government because the budget cannot be used.

"We hope the residents change their minds because the widening of the crater of Mount Sipandu is still ongoing, making it prone to disasters," he said.

He reminded residents who are in the upper and lower areas to continue to increase disaster awareness because the intensity of rainfall is still quite high in the local area.

"We remind you to be vigilant during high-intensity rainfall because it is prone to landslides and floods," he said.
