KPK Chairman Firli Proposes Zero Percent Presidential Threshold, Gerindra: Whether 20, 15, 5 Percent, We Are Ready!

JAKARTA - The Gerindra faction of the DPR RI does not question the suggestion of the Chairman of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Firli Bahuri for the Presidential Threshold to be enforced at zero percent. Firli considered that with this threshold, the democratic party would no longer be colored by high political costs, so corruption would be minimal.

"There is no problem, that's his opinion," said member of the DPR from the Gerindra faction, Habiburokhman, Monday, December 13.

According to the Deputy Chairperson of Gerindra, his party is ready to fight in the 2024 Simultaneous Elections regardless of the threshold used.

"If Gerindra doesn't care, if you want 20 percent, 15 percent, you want 5 percent, you want 0 percent, we're ready for the rules," Habiburokhman said. Firli Bahuri said that the Presidential Threshold must be abolished in order to eradicate corruption in Indonesia. Because, with the Presidential Threshold, democracy in the country is still characterized by high political costs.

According to the member of Commission II of the DPR, the presidential election which requires high political costs should be eliminated. Because he said, you can imagine if there is a credible, integrity and great figure who wants to advance to become a candidate for the nation's leader but does not have adequate capital. "This is an opportunity for oligarchs to sponsor figures who want to run in the presidential election. If it is elected, then the interests of the oligarchs must of course be accommodated so that the interests of other parties are held hostage to the practice of corruption, collusion, and nepotism (KKN)," Guspardi told reporters.

In contrast to the PAN faction, the Secretary of the PPP faction, Achmad Baidowi, thinks that KPK chairman Firli Bahuri does not need to be busy dealing with the presidential threshold. This is because the issue of the threshold in the general election is the main task of the DPR.

"It is better for Firli to focus on the main tasks of the KPK, he doesn't need to take care of things outside his main duties," Baidowi said when contacted, Monday, December 13. Regarding the expensive political costs, which Firli called, the man who is familiarly called Awiek questioned it. He then asked Firli not to throw up issues that were outside his main duties as a KPK leader.

"Where is the political dowry? It's better not to throw issues outside of their main duties. It is better to focus on the internal KPK," said Awiek.
