Government Launches Stimulus Package of IDR 26.34 Trillion to Boost Economy in Semester II-2026

JAKARTA - The government has prepared various economic stimuli and incentives in the second half of 2026 to maintain the momentum of economic growth while ensuring the growth target in 2026 of 5.4 percent can be achieved.

The budget allocation for the second semester economic stimulus package reached Rp. 26.34 trillion.

Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto said that Indonesia's economy in the first half of 2026 grew 5.45 percent cumulatively, and this achievement needs to be maintained so that economic growth remains above the 5 percent level until the end of the year.

"Semester 2, of course, we are targeting this year in accordance with the 5.4 (percent) state budget, so of course we must maintain the momentum of growth above 5 (percent)," he said in a press conference, quoted Thursday, August 6.

He added that in the second semester of 2026, the government relied on a number of economic driving forces, ranging from investment, government spending, public consumption, to export and import activities to encourage gross domestic product (GDP) growth.

"We expect in terms of investment as a driver, then from government spending, as well as people's purchasing power, and from imports and exports," he said.

Airlangga said that to support this growth, the government had prepared a number of stimulus programs, one of which was the distribution of food assistance in the form of 10 kilograms of rice to 33.24 million beneficiary families with the aim of suppressing inflation.

The government also re-provided transportation incentives during the school holidays and Christmas-New Year (Nataru) period, which include a 30 percent discount on train and sea freight fares, exemption from port tariffs, and Government-funded Value Added Tax (PPN DTP) facilities for economy class plane tickets.

In the employment sector, the government launched a national internship program for 150,000 college graduates with an internship period of six months and receive wages from the government.

"From the results of yesterday's evaluation, 60 percent of the programs that participated in the internship were accepted by the company where they were interns, and in this program they still receive wages from the government." he explained.

In addition, the government targets 250,000 students and young workers to participate in vocational training programs to increase labor competencies.

Meanwhile, to boost the tourism sector, Garuda Indonesia will carry out a special promotional program to 33 tourist destinations with a target of attracting around 178,000 foreign tourists.

The government will also optimize the implementation of various international events, such as the Mandalika MotoGP, Borobudur Marathon, and large-scale music festivals as tourist attractions.

"In the future, we have also talked to the Minister of Tourism that the event is one way to attract tourists to Indonesia," he explained.

In the energy sector, the government ensures that fuel oil prices (BBM) will not increase until the end of 2026.

This policy is supported by the role of the State Budget as a fiscal cushion (shock absorber) in the midst of high world oil prices where throughout the first semester of 2026, the average Indonesian Crude Price (ICP) was recorded at 90.46 US dollars per barrel, far above the assumptions in the State Budget.

"The Government's principle is clear, people's purchasing power must not be eroded. Therefore, we maintain the price of fuel, stabilize the price of food, and channel the stimulus to the right target," he said.

Meanwhile, in terms of connectivity, the government has also strengthened air transport cooperation through the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Thailand, which includes the opening of TransNusa flight routes from Bangkok to Jakarta and Phuket to Denpasar.

"Previously, with Belarus, the President has discussed providing an opportunity for Belarus to fly directly to destinations in Indonesia," he concluded.
