BMKG Issues Warning To Banjarmasin And Kotabaru, South Kalimantan, In The Next 2 Days There Is A Potential For Catastrophic Flooding

SOUTH KALIMANTAN - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) through the Syamsudin Noor Banjarmasin Meteorological Station issued a warning for the City of Banjarmasin and Kotabaru Regency in South Kalimantan.

In the next two days, the two cities are predicted to experience high tide or tidal flooding.

"The public is advised to anticipate the impact of this maximum tide", said Forecaster for the Syamsudin Noor Banjarmasin Meteorological Station, Fitma Surya Arghani, in Banjarbaru, Antara, Friday, December 10.

Rob has the potential to occur in the lower region. For Banjarmasin, the maximum tide is between 22.00 to 03.00 WITA. Meanwhile, in Kotabaru, it occurred between 21.00 and 22.00 WITA.

Fitma explained that the tidal wave due to tidal activity and the new moon phase increased rainfall and the potential for strong winds could affect coastal dynamics in the South Kalimantan waters.

This has an impact on the disruption of transportation around the port and coast, inland fishing activities, and loading and unloading activities at the port.

Meanwhile, in the case of high rainfall on the mainland that triggers overflow floods or flash floods, added Fitma, the tidal conditions on the coast can inhibit the receding of floods around the area.

The BMKG also warned the impact of heavy rain in South Kalimantan with alert status, namely Tanah Laut, Hulu Sungai Selatan, Hulu Sungai Tengah, Hulu Sungai Utara, Balangan and Tabalong Regencies.

While the alert status is Banjarmasin City, Banjarbaru City, Barito Kuala Regency, Banjar Regency, and Tapin Regency.

The alert and alert status applies on December 11 and 12, 2021. The volume of river water that increases to cause flooding can occur including landslides, rockfall, and soil erosion.
