20 Crew Members From Vietnam Are Positive For COVID-19 In Muara Berau, East Kalimantan

SAMARINDA - Head of the Class IIA Port Health Office (KKP) Samarinda, Solihin, said that 20 crew members (ABK) ships from Vietnam in the waters of Muara Berau, East Kalimantan, tested positive for COVID-19 and one person with symptoms of shortness of breath.

"Last night one person with symptoms of shortness of breath was evacuated by the medical team to a hospital in Samarinda", he said in Samarinda, quoted by Antara, Thursday, December 9.

He said the ship is currently in a quarantine status. This means that no one can get on and off the ship.

"We will continue to monitor, and this is under the supervision of Harbormaster and Port Authority (KSOP) and Water and Air Police Corps Samarinda", said Solihin.

Then, for the crew members who tested positive, they remained on the ship to undergo self-isolation. Meanwhile, those who are negative for COVID-19 will be placed in a separate room.

In order not to violate, said Solihin, the position of the ship must be far from the port. So that no one goes up and down later.

Solihin also explained the possibility of how long the crew members will undergo self-isolation on the ship that has been quarantined is carried out according to quarantine rules.

"According to the quarantine manual, the quarantine is for 10 days, and later if there are no symptoms, it is considered cured", said Solihin.

For information, the ship from Vietnam named the hull of the MV Viet Thuan Ocean, arrived some time ago. However, it is confirmed, the ship did not have time to dock in Samarinda.

Previously, the Head of the Samarinda KSOP Class II Office, Mukhlis Tohepaly, also explained that the arrival of the MV Viet Thuan Ocean that sailed from the Vietnamese port immediately carried out inspections of health documents, ship sanitation, to antigen examination.
