BNPB Urges Not To Do Activities Within A Radius Of 1-5 Km From The Peak Of Semeru

JAKARTA - The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) has appealed to the public not to move in a radius of 1-5 km from the peak of Mount Semeru, Lumajang Regency, East Java.

The appeal is by the recommendations of the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) for the volcanic activity of Mount Semeru.

"First, the community does not move within a 1 km radius of the crater or peak of Mount Semeru and a distance of 5 km towards the crater opening in the southeast - south sector, and is wary of hot clouds avalanche, lava avalanches, and lava along rivers or valleys that originate at the summit of Mount Semeru", said the acting Head of the BNPB Disaster Data, Information and Communication Center, Abdul Muhari, in a written statement quoted by Antara, Tuesday, December 7.

Furthermore, the radius and distance of this recommendation will be evaluated continuously to anticipate if there are symptoms of changes in the threat of danger, said Aam.

Second, people should stay away from or not move in areas affected by hot cloud material because the temperature is still high.

Third, the public needs to be aware of the potential for slides along the Besuk Kobokan hot cloud path valley.

Fourth, the community needs to be aware of the threat of lahars in the river channel or valley that originates in Mount Semeru. This is due to the large amount of volcanic material that has been formed.

Previously, the number of people displaced as of Tuesday had increased to 3,697 people. Data on the death toll recorded that 56 people were injured, 17 people were missing and 34 people died, while the total affected population was 5,205 people.
