Medan Angkot Driver Who Broke Through The Railroad Crossing Who Drank Wine And Used Methamphetamine Became A Suspect

MEDAN - Police investigators have named a city transportation (angkot) driver in the city of Medan, North Sumatra, with the initials HM as a suspect for neglecting to drive the vehicle, killing four passengers.

The angkot was hit by a train after breaking through the crosswalk on Jalan Sekip, Medan some time ago.

"The suspect is charged with Article 310 paragraph 4 and Article 331 paragraph 5 of Law No. 22 of 2009 concerning Road Traffic and Transportation, which carries a maximum sentence of 12 years in prison," said Medan Police Chief Kombes Riko Sunarko as quoted by Antara, Monday, December 6.

The suspect was also tested positive for using methamphetamine based on the results of a urine examination conducted by investigators.

"He also admitted that he had been using drugs for three years," he said.

Riko said the suspect before leaving with the angkot passengers had also consumed alcoholic beverages while at the base.

"This was before the suspect took the passengers involved in the accident," he said.

Previously, a city transportation unit was hit by a train on Jalan Sekip, Petisah Village, Medan City on Saturday, December 4. The video of this incident has gone viral on social media.

The accident started when the angkot crossed Jalan Sekip from the direction of Petisah to Jalan Karya and broke through the railroad crossing gate.

At the same time the train bound for Binjai to Medan was passing at the scene. As a result, four passengers died and several others were injured.
