The Thamrin Clock Monument To Monas Was Moved In Stages

JAKARTA - The transfer of the cultural heritage building, Tugu Jam Thamrin, to the National Monument (Monas) area will be carried out in stages, as a result of the Thamrin Station construction project in MRT Jakarta Phase 2A which connects the HI-City Roundabout.

MRT Jakarta Construction Director, Silvia Halim, said the relocation of the Thamrin Clock Monument, which is located at the crossroads of Kebon Sirih Street and MH. Thamrin Street was carried out in three stages.

"First we move the top of the tower and the clock. The first phase was just completed last night", said Silvia, quoted by Antara, Tuesday, November 30.

Then, the second stage of relocation is carried out on the main pole and canopy of the police post. In the third stage, the relocation is carried out on the police post and part of the octagonal foundation.

All stages of moving the Thamrin Clock Monument are targeted to be completed in mid-December 2021.

"We move parts of the Clock Monument and temporarily store it at Monas", said Silvia.

During storage at Monas, the clock movement will continue to function and its maintenance will be carried out by the DKI Jakarta Culture Service.

The Thamrin Clock Tower or Tugu Clock is a building that was inaugurated in June 1969 with a height of 12.5 meters.

The giant clock was built so that the citizens of the capital can appreciate time, especially when entering office hours.

In the process of moving and storing the Thamrin Clock Monument, a steel bracing will be provided to maintain the stability of the structure during storage.

The Thamrin Clock Monument will be placed in its original location after the construction of the Thamrin MRT Station is completed.
