In Front Of Labor Demonstrations, Governor Anies: I'm Used To Solving Problems, Not Exposing Problems

JAKARTA - DKI Governor Anies Baswedan gave hope to workers who demonstrated to demand an increase in the UMP (Provincial Minimum Wage). Anies agrees that the increase in DKI UMP in 2022 is only IDR 37 thousand, which is too small.

In front of the workers, Anies threw a hot ball about determining the UMP to the Minister of Manpower, Ida Fauziyah. One of the points in the letter is DKI's disagreement with the wage formula that the Ministry of Manpower applies simultaneously in all regions.

"So when this happens, we write to the Ministry of Manpower. We say this formula is not suitable to be applied in Jakarta, this formula is not suitable in Jakarta", said Anies in front of workers who staged a demonstration at DKI City Hall, Monday 29 November.

For Anies, the wage formula must provide a sense of justice. Anies claimed that this matter had reached the discussion stage, although he did not explain the details of the ministry's initial response when receiving the letter from DKI.

"I am used to working to solve problems. Not to talk about problems", Anies continued.

Anies is committed to ensuring equal justice in Jakarta for both workers and entrepreneurs. The problem is that not all business sectors feel down by this pandemic.

"We know that during the pandemic there are indeed sectors that suffer tremendous losses, but there are also sectors that experience growth. Is this what makes masks grow or not? But hotels, do they not grow?" Anies said.

"We understand and currently we are both fighting for Jakarta's UMP to rise higher than the current formula", he continued.

Then why did Anies finally sign the Governor's Regulation regarding the increase in the UMP? Anies has an answer.

He said that according to the rules, the formula for the UMP figures had to be submitted on November 20.

"I need to say that on the 20th it must be issued. Because the provisions require that a Governor's Decree must be issued before the 20th. Because if it is not issued, it is considered a violation", he said.
